A common overlooked element of a CV or resume is the professional profile or introduction section. Knowing how to approach the profile, what to put in, and what to leave out can be head scratching.

From our experience we believe the key is to grab the reader’s attention from the start. To do this we recommend crafting a profile that uses industry language to speak to your target audience. First, think about your unique value proposition, this is what will set you apart from others – you want to offer real value to a future employer. Using the STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Result) method is an ideal way to build content throughout the resume, including the introduction. If targeting specific industries, it’s a great opportunity to namedrop other brands, as well as to talk about specialist products and services that you have worked on. Try to use a few stats if possible, as this often draws the reader’s attention and helps break up the content.

Your focus is to have a profile that is more relevant and compelling. You should also consider revising and adjusting the profile according to different industry and position types.
